Admission to Ulster Youth Choir is by short informal audition which should last no more than 7.5 minutes!
During the audition you will be invited to sing a song of your own choice, sing a short piece at sight, and do some voice range tests.
There is a non-refundable audition fee payable by anyone who requests an audition.
What should I sing?
Ask your singing teacher to advise you on your choice of song or, if you don’t attend singing lessons ask your music teacher in school/university.
If you are still unsure, phone the UYC office and they will be happy to advise.
It is useful to remember that the style of music performed by UYC is predominantly classical, therefore it is advisable not to sing songs from the musicals or pop songs as these do not always show off your full vocal potential for a choir of this type.
Sight singing?
Whilst the ability to sing at sight is desirable, you should not be deterred from applying if your sight singing ability is currently underdeveloped.
What else can I expect at audition?
You will be auditioned by the UYC Conductor, Greg Beardsell and the Manager, Majella Hollywood and an accompanist will be provided for you at all audition venues. Time-permitting, you will have the opportunity to have a run-through your piece with the accompanist before your audition.
How long do I have to wait to find out the audition results?
You will be notified in writing approximately 2 weeks after your audition. No audition results can be given over the phone. You will also receive a written audition report form signed by the Conductor and Manager.
